Cricket Milestones Reached on 22 September

The India v New Zealand Test of 2016 alone accounts for a cluster of landmarks. Rohit Sharma brought up 1000 Test runs, while Ravindra Jadeja and Kannaur Rahul both reached 500 Test runs on the same day. Ravichandran Ashwin reached 200 Test wickets, and Mark Craig got to 50 Test wickets from the other side. Jadeja added a further mark, his 5th Test five-wicket haul, giving him a rare batting and bowling double on the same date. Together these numbers capture a match that was pivotal in shaping several careers at once, spanning young milestones like Rahul's 500 runs to Ashwin's more advanced 200-wicket mark.

Other landmarks stretch back further. In the Pakistan v Sri Lanka Test of 1995, Moin Khan reached 500 Test runs and Aaqib Javed got to 50 Test wickets. In ODI cricket, Quinton de Kock brought up 1000 T20I runs against South Africa in 2019, Albie Morkel reached 500 ODI runs in 2009, and Stuart Clark reached 25 ODI wickets in 2006. Boundary-hitting also features: David Warner struck his 100th ODI six in 2023, while Mahela Jayawardene reached his 50th ODI six in 2009, both markers of long service in the format.

Several entries mark appearance counts rather than statistical totals. Zaheer Abbas played his 50th Test in 1982 and Marvan Atapattu his 25th Test in 1999. Beuran Hendricks played his 25th ODI in 2024, and Dale Steyn and Kieron Pollard both reached their 25th T20I in 2012. At the other end of a career, Abdul Malik and Matthew Short each played their 1st ODI, in 2024 and 2023 respectively, the starting point from which future landmarks are measured.
