Trophy Tensions: Mohsin Naqvi's Apology Doesn’t Resolve Asia Cup Saga

The Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy deepened as ACC Chief and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi issued an apology to the BCCI following the chaotic scenes post-final on September 28. During the recent ACC meeting on September 30, Naqvi expressed regret but insisted that India's captain must personally collect the trophy and medals from the ACC office in Dubai—an offer that the BCCI promptly rejected. BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla criticized Naqvi's decision to take the trophy and medals without a formal handover ceremony, underlining that the award rightfully belongs to the Asian Cricket Council rather than an individual. Additionally, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia articulated the board’s stance, asserting, 'We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, a choice made deliberately.' Saikia further stated that Naqvi overstepped his bounds by attempting to take the trophy, labeling the act as 'extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike.' With existing tensions between the boards, Naqvi’s apology appears insufficient to quell the discontent.
