Cricket Australia has named 14-player squads for both the ODI and T20I legs of the home series against England. The eight-match schedule features one notable recall, two maiden T20I call-ups and a rested pace trio, offering a clear view of the selectors' priorities.
Series Schedule and Context
England will play three ODIs in Perth, Adelaide and Hobart, followed by a five-match T20I series. The ODIs are on November 13, 15 and 18.
Australia arrive after a 1-2 Test series defeat to South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma. They won the opening Test before losing the next two.
| Format | Matches | Squad Size | Captain |
|---|
| ODI | 3 | 14 | Mitchell Marsh |
| T20I | 5 | 14 | Mitchell Marsh |
| ODI | Date | Venue |
|---|
| 1st ODI | November 13 | Perth |
| 2nd ODI | November 15 | Adelaide |
| 3rd ODI | November 18 | Hobart |
Western Australian fast bowler Mahli Beardman is included in both squads. He impressed during the Australia A 50-over tour of India, where his pace troubled a strong India A batting line-up.
Beardman played one T20I in January 2026 and has not yet made his ODI debut. He is in contention to do so this month.
Selectors' Reasoning
Chair of selectors George Bailey said the panel believes Beardman can develop into an all-format player over the coming years. Bailey also noted that the series gives players from recent tours a chance to show their ability against strong opposition.
Liam Scott returns to the ODI squad. Bailey credited him with growth over the past 12-18 months.
Maiden T20I Call-Ups and Returns
Wicketkeeper-batters Lachlan Shaw and Sam Harper receive their first international call-ups in the T20I squad. Both have cases built on recent form.
| Player | Role | Basis for Selection |
|---|
| Lachlan Shaw | Wicketkeeper-batter | India A tour and Big Bash League form; captains NSW 50-over side at 23 |
| Sam Harper | Wicketkeeper-batter | Reigning BBL Player of the Season; named in the Test squad for South Africa |
| Jake Fraser-McGurk | Batter | Strong South Australia domestic form; last played for Australia in July 2025 |
| Mitchell Owen | All-rounder | Returns after missing the T20 World Cup and the Bangladesh tour |
Squad Overlap Between Formats
Only six players appear in both squads: Marsh, Bartlett, Beardman, Edwards, Johnson and Zampa. That leaves eight players unique to each format, suggesting the selectors are using the series to assess specialist options.
Rested and Unavailable Players
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are not selected for the ODI series. The trio played all three Tests in South Africa and will have a short de-load period before preparing for the home Test series against New Zealand.
Billy Stanlake is unavailable while recovering from a side strain picked up on the Zimbabwe tour. Aaron Hardie is recovering from a shoulder injury, while Riley Meredith and Matthew Kuhnemann also missed out.
| Player | Status |
|---|
| Pat Cummins | Rested |
| Mitchell Starc | Rested |
| Josh Hazlewood | Rested |
| Billy Stanlake | Side strain |
| Aaron Hardie | Shoulder injury |
| Riley Meredith | Not selected |
| Matthew Kuhnemann | Not selected |

Analytical Takeaways
The pace-bowling rotation is the central story. With three senior seamers rested, Beardman, Bartlett, Johnson and Ellis have a larger share of the new-ball workload across eight matches.
The selections also point to a squad-depth approach ahead of the New Zealand Test series. Eight matches against England give the selectors a sizeable sample to assess newer options before the next major assignments.
